Volume 5 of Beethoven's complete Piano Sonatas on original instruments with the internationally renowned Dutch pianist Paul Komen, who before recording this series performed the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas in the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, Germany. Performances which earned him the highest praise from critics and audiences alike. The principal work on this new album is of course the great Sonate Pathetique (No. 8), known to every music lover, but seldom heard in such an eloquent performance as given here by Paul Komen on an original Viennese fortepiano from 1802. The other sonatas date from more or less the same period and all together they present the most authentic image imaginable of the Beethoven from the late 18th century.
